After the departure of coach Justin Langer from the team, Australia is all set for the new beginning with the T20 series against Sri Lanka on February 10.
Even when the ex-coach was not supposed to be present in this series, Langer’s sudden exit has caused a slight shock to the team.
Andrew McDonald will be taking over his position and coaching the team. This series will also witness the absence of two important players – David Warner and Mitchell Marsh – who are resting and preparing for the team’s upcoming Test tour of Pakistan. In due course of time, top run-scorer Ben McDermott will be opening with Aaron Finch. As per Finch, Josh Inglis would make his debut at number three.
“Ben McDermott has been in the unbelievable nick, so to get him at the top of the order was really crucial for us,” said Finch, who, like Warner, is 35 with Australia keen to look at potential successors. “And Josh Inglis has been someone who has been shuffled around the order a little bit. (His selection) is a sign of how well he’s played over the last couple of years.”
Led by Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka will be coming with Wanindu Hasaranga, number one T20 bowler and leg-spinner. Wanindu missed the latest one-day series with Zimbabwe due to an injury.
Also, the opener and partial wicket-keeper Kusa Mendis has been tested positive for Covid-19.
So, Dinesh Chandimal will be taking over his role.
