Manchester United are set to sign a new centre-back this summer named Lisandro Martinez from Ajax FC. This will be United’s third signing of this summer transfer window. They have already signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. Lisandro Martinez wanted to join the Premier League side and chose Manchester United over Arsenal.
Erik ten Hag (Manchester United’s manager) wanted the club to sign the Argentine centre-half (Lisandro Martinez) as he knows him very well. Lisandro used to play for Erik in their former club named Ajax. The deal closed around €55 million for the defender (as per Fabrizio Romano latest Instagram post). Lisandro Martinez will sign the contract with Manchester United until 2027 in the coming days. It is expected that the defender will join the squad in the club’s pre-season tour in Australia. Manchester United have won their two pre-season games already, one in Bangkok against Liverpool and the other one in Australia against Melbourne Victory.
There are two more games to be played in Australia in a pre-season tour for Manchester United. United have also reached full agreement with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong but the player haven’t given a green light to this deal as the personal terms with the Dutch midfielder is still to be resolved.
