The other contest in WTA Finals of Group Nancy Richey was won by Maria Sakkari, who defeated world No. 3 Jessica Pegula 7-6(6) 7-6. (4). Jabeur, a Wimbledon and US Open finalist, wasn’t able to defeat Sabalenka in Texas, despite being one of the top competitors for world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
In the second set tiebreak, Jabeur was two points away from winning at 5-3, and in the third set, he was a point away from leading 5-2. However, Sabalenka triumphed to win her first match on a hard court in the top 10 since defeating Swiatek at the WTA Finals a year ago.
Sabalenka stated, “She played incredible, and somehow another miracle happened for me, and I was able to win this match. “I’m just trying to take it all in while I’m here, give it my all, and see what the final week of the season can bring.
“I simply advised her to keep trying, keep battling, and make sure that she has to do something extraordinary, not like an easy win” if she wants to win this match. And I believe that’s why I applied a little bit more pressure to her, which allowed me to prevail when it mattered most.” was said in the WTA Finals.
Sakkari fell to Pegula in the Guadalajara Open final a week ago, but he turned the tables by winning in Texas.
