For many years, the world has witnessed women rising upward in various sectors. In the similar manner, women or female coaches were seen creating history in the world of sports, thereby providing guidance to other players. They were successful in providing proper shapes to the future of youngsters.

At present, there’s not any single sport where the women don’t participate, instead they come up with record breaking performances in various sport events. Moreover, female coaches are believed to challenge stereotypes about gender and leadership and offer diverse perspectives, insight and advice to their athletes. Despite facing societal norms and barriers, female coaches have successfully managed to register success throughout the years.

  • Kathryn Smith

Kathryn Smith has been reported as the first full-time female coach in the records of National Football League’s (NFL). On working with the New York Jets, she worked through various administrative roles, along with figuring out what it takes to motivate a large team. Moreover, being a player personnel assistant, she was exposed to a different side of the player and coach relationship. In the year of 2016, Kathryn Smith hit the big time working under Michael Hamlin, while being engaged with the professional men of American football. 

  • Purnima Rau

Purnima Rau is a former Indian cricketer who became the head coach of team India in the year 2013. Rau was later removed from the post after the World T20 in Bangladesh (2014). As per reports, she made a comeback to the position in mid-2015 for the home New Zealand series, and it was during that time when Indian cricket team were making excellent progress. The team managed to register victory in the ODI series by 3-2, prior to recording a historic T20I series win in Australia. However, in the initial period of 2017 she coached India to the World Cup qualifier title in Colombo. At present, she has been reported to work as a coach, who is associated with development of youth and women’s cricketers in Hyderabad. 

  • Jennifer King

Jennifer King registered history in the year of 2021. This is because in the same year, she became the first black female assistant coach in the NFL. Prior to this, she worked as a coaching intern at the Washington Football Team in 2020 before she was promoted to assistant coach at the start of the year. She is also reported to be the second female assistant coach in the NFL. According to reports, she served as an assistant coach at Greensboro College from 2006 to 2016, where the program compiled a 182–63 record, 5 regular season championships, 2 conference tournament championships, and four NCAA tournament appearances. Moreover, she was hired as the women’s basketball head coach at Johnson & Wales University in North Carolina, where she was successful in turning around a program that had existed for only two years prior into a national championship within two seasons.

  • Dawn Staley

Along with achievements like gold medals in Olympics and a position in the American Basketball Hall of Fame, Dawn Staley is an incredible basketball player who later became a coach. Right now, she is serving as the head coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Staley is reported to be working with assistant coaches in order to bring to the world a new generation of coaches and is further recognized for her sportsmanship. According to reports, she has been an inspiration to numerous female athletes and women basketball coaches. 

  • Becky Hammon

Becky Hammon is considered as a rising star among female athletes and is said to lead a very successful basketball team, the “San Antonio Spurs.” As per reports, it was the Women’s National Basketball Association that witnessed her rise as an athlete. She is said to pass her knowledge, skills, and positive attitude onto other athletes. The major highlight of Becky’s athletic career has been her presence on the Russian national team in both the years of 2008 and 2012 Olympic games, which ultimately made her the head coach. She is as well reported as one of the best female coaches who claim to win the WNBA All-Star award for six times.
