Ishant Sharma is a well known bowler of the Indian squad. His aggression and speed while bowling have always been the talk of the town. Ishant, with the height as 6ft, is one of the tallest bowlers that India has till date. Because of his thin and lean physique, his teammates started calling him ‘lambu’. He has been playing this game since the age of 14 years. He got his first chance to play for the country at the age of 18 years.
He made his debut by playing six youth ODI and three youth test matches in Under 19 tournaments. Sharma was selected in the test team in May 2007 to play against Bangladesh. He played in the second test and bowled just three overs. Out of three, one over was maiden and the other two overs were conceded for 5 runs. With his impressive performance, he was further selected for a tour of England in July-August 2007.
In test cricket, Sharma has taken a total of 311 wickets while playing ODI matches he took 115 wickets. His best test match was against West Indies on June 28, 2011, in which he took 10 wickets for 108 runs.
While playing ODI, his best performance was 4/34 against Sri Lanka on November 2, 2014, and also won the man of the match for the game.
In six matches, Ishant has taken 4 wickets at a go. He played his last ODI on January 17, 2016, against Australia and last test match on November 25, 2021, against New Zealand.
