The top footballers have always had a way of living a lavish lifestyle. This lavish style of life has often cost some of these footballers. Here are some of the footballers who went to jail.
Patrick Kluivert
Among the greatest players in Dutch history was the former Ajax, Milan, and Barcelona star,Patrick Kluivert. Kluivert won numerous league championships in the Netherlands and Spain. He was 19 when he was involved in an automobile accident that killed Martin Putman, an Ajax supporter. Kluivert was sentenced to community service rather than jail time for driving recklessly. He now works as a coach and athletic director. Patrick served as an assistant coach for the national football team of Cameroon. (2018–2019).
Ronaldinho
Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto de Assis became embroiled in a fake passport incident after visiting Paraguay. They entered a guilty plea in 2020, which resulted in a five-year sentence being reduced to five months and a joint fine of $200,000 (£167,000). Ronaldinho celebrated his 40th birthday in Asuncion, where the brothers were detained.
Adam Johnson
Johnson’s case caused indignation on a global scale. He was one of several seasoned football players who were sentenced to prison for child molesting offenses. The former player for Manchester City and Sunderland was found guilty in 2016. For having an affair with a 15-year-old girl whose identity was kept secret for legal reasons, Sunderland sacked him. In 2019, Adam Johnson was granted release from HM Prisons Leeds and Moorland after completing the first half of his six-year sentence.
Ian Wright
Ian spent six years playing for Crystal Palace and seven years playing for Arsenal. He is one of the football players that has served time in prison. The radio and television celebrity frequently recounts his time in jail on broadcast. The former striker had a difficult upbringing and was 19 when he served a two-week sentence at Chelmsford Prison in 1982 for failing to pay insurance or moving violations for his two automobiles. Ian Wright said that his little prison term had improved him.
Mason Greenwood
Mason Greenwood, an English footballer, was jailed in January 2022 on suspicion of sexual assault, physical assault, and threats of death. After spending three nights being questioned in a detention cell, he was freed on bail. His ex-girlfriend posted an online voice recording of him hitting her. Awaiting the outcome of the investigation, Man-United has suspended Greenwood from competing and training. In February 2023, after crucial witnesses withdrew their statements, the prosecution decided to abandon the case. Greenwood is still a forward with Man United.
