Neeraj Chopra created history once again as he reached the number 1 ranking in Javelin Throw. The 25-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist claimed the number 1 ranking for the first time in his career. As per the latest rankings and points released by World Athletics, Chopra is at the number 1 position with a lead of 22 points above Anderson Peters of Grenada.
Neeraj reached the number 2 ranking last year in August and was chasing Peters since then. The star athlete from India became only the second Indian to win an individual Gold Olympic Medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
He added another historic moment to his Javelin career as he has become the first-ever Indian track and field athlete to reach the number 1 ranking. In September 2022 he even became the first Indian to win the Diamond League 2022 Finals in Zurich.
With his effort of 88.67 metres, the 25-year-old Indian athlete won the opening Diamond League competition in Doha on May 6. On June 4, he will compete once more at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, Netherlands, with another competition scheduled for June 13.
Neeraj received praise from many as he created history once again by reaching the number 1 ranking. Telugu actor, Sai Dharam Tej congratulated the Olympic Champion and said “Entire nation is proud of you.”

Anderson Peters of Grenada, the current world champion, finished 22 points behind Chopra at 1433. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, finished third with 1416 points.

Neeraj aims for 90m
Neeraj has most of the records and accomplishments to his name, but he hasn’t yet broken the 90-meter barrier. In men’s javelin, the 90m club is regarded as an elite list. Neeraj had stated that he is certain of reaching the elusive milestone this year prior to the start of the new season.
