The ongoing inaugural edition of the US Masters T10 League has witnessed the participation of several retired players from India and Pakistan. Among them are Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi, leading the teams New York Warriors and New Jersey Legends, respectively. The clash between these two iconic cricketers’ teams on Sunday (August 20) was eagerly anticipated due to their history of banter both on and off the field.
Despite rain causing interruptions, a thrilling five-over game unfolded between the two sides. Opting to bat first, New Jersey Legends faced early setbacks, losing Richard Levi and Tillakaratne Dilshan in the initial overs. However, it was skipper Shahid Afridi who stole the spotlight with a blistering unbeaten knock of 37 runs off just 12 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and two sixes.
Afridi took on Christopher Barnwell and Abhimanyu Mithun, scoring 27 and 15 runs respectively off the single over they bowled in the innings. His efforts led New Jersey Legends to set a competitive total of 84 runs in five overs.

However, Shahid Afridi’s impressive performance ultimately went unrewarded as New York Warriors managed to chase down the target with two balls to spare. The trio of Jesse Ryder (38), Yusuf Pathan (16), and Christopher Barnwell (28*) powered their team to victory in a mere 4.4 overs, smashing a remarkable 10 sixes collectively. Despite being in the line-up, Gautam Gambhir did not bat, opting to come lower down the order due to the five-over format. The match also witnessed Jerome Taylor of New York Warriors conceding 30 runs in a single over.
