South African cricketer Adrian Paul Kuiper was born on August 24, 1959. He competed in one Test match and 25 One Day Internationals between 1991 and 1996. In 1977, Kuiper debuted with Western Province B and quickly rose to the level of Western Province A, where he played as a middle-order batsman and medium-paced bowler. He was a player for Western Province from 1978 to 1995, and in 1984 he was named team captain. In the years following, from 1995 to 1998, he led Boland as captain. He was a member of the Derbyshire team that competed in the 1990 English County Championship. In the championship game against Essex, he scored 56 runs to lead Derbyshire to victory and the 1990 Refuge *urance League championship. Up until the year 1996, Kuiper participated in One Day Internationals. He ended his career with a 61-run performance against England at Port Elizabeth. However, his age and fitness levels kept him from being selected for the Cricket World Cup roster in 1996.
Throughout his career, Kuiper was often compared to the big-hitting Ian Botham. Against a defiant England side in Bloemfontein in 1990, he blasted 117 not out from 67 balls (hitting his century in 48 balls) with eight sixes and eight fours. Batsman Daryll Cullinan of South Africa said it was the best one-day hundred he had ever seen.+
