One of the two New York City-based football teams is the New York Jets. The New York Jets franchise was founded in 1959. Originally, the club was known as the Titans of New York and was a member of the American Football League. The first year that the squad played at the Polo Grounds was 1960. Following a change in ownership in 1963, the team changed its name and relocated to Shea Stadium in 1964 and subsequently to the Meadowlands Sports Complex in 1984. Both locations are in New York City. The Jets’ victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III in 1969 helped establish the dominance of the American Football League (AFL) over the rest of the football world. At this time, the New York Jets are playing their games in the AFC East Division of the league. They haven’t won a divisional championship since 2002, and their league performance has been inconsistent. The New York Jets currently have a value of approximately $5.4 billion.

Established: 1960
In 1968, the Jets qualified for the playoffs for the first time. After beating the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, they made history as the first AFL team to win an AFL-NFL World Championship Game. As of 2010, the Jets have made 13 postseason appearances since 1968, including four trips to the AFC Championship Game, where they had lost each time to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unlike the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Jets have never returned to the Super Bowl after their initial victory. The Jets’ absence from the Super Bowl is the longest active streak in the National Football League (NFL). Only the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions have never won the championship game. Since 2010, the Jets haven’t even come close to making the Playoffs. So far, they have won four division titles, one American Football League crown, and one Super Bowl.
