In the National Football League, the Tennessee Titans compete for games at Nissan Stadium as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division (NFL). The city of Houston, Texas, served as the club’s home from 1960 through 1996, during which time they competed under the moniker Houston Oilers. They were victorious twice in the American Football League (AFL) title game (1960 and 1961). The Edmonton Oilers were one of the original eight clubs that started the American Football League in 1960.
They were led to victory by quarterback George Blanda, who led them to the AFL championship for the first time, and they went on to win it again the following year. The Titans enjoyed a lot of success in the postseason in the early 2000s when they qualified for the playoffs in all but one of the seasons from 1999 to 2003. However, during the subsequent thirteen years, they only did so twice. Since the Titans became the Tennessee Titans in 2016, they have had six consecutive winning seasons, their longest winning streak since they were the Houston Oilers. The Titans’ position began to improve in the late 2010s. They also qualified for the playoffs on four separate occasions during that time frame.
Tennessee Titans Team Info:
Head Coach: Mike Vrabel
Stadium: Nissan Stadium
Owners: Amy Adams Strunk
Established: 1960
As a result of declining attendance, the club moved to Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville in 1998. For those two years, the team was known as the Tennessee Oilers, but beginning with the 1999 season, it became simply the Titans, and it moved its home games to Adelphia Coliseum (now known as Nissan Stadium). The Nissan Stadium is the current home field for the Tennessee Titans. Home to the NFL’s Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University’s Tigers, this stadium is owned by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and is used largely for football. The Titans have only been to one Super Bowl (XXXIV), where they lost to the St. Louis Rams 23-16. (Now Los Angeles Rams). The Tennessee Titans have made it to the playoffs 25 times but haven’t won many titles. The Titans have won 11 division titles and one conference title so far.
