In a thrilling match AFG vs AUS, Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs to go to the semi-finals.
In a pivotal moment for the current ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan defeated Australia to claim their first-ever victory in international cricket.
Australia and India are now anxious and apprehensive about their position going into the semi-finals after the Asian team emerged victorious in the AFG vs. AUS Super 8 match by a margin of 21 runs, keeping them alive in the race to the playoffs.

On Saturday evening, Rashid Khan’s squad made history at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St. Vincent, securing what is unquestionably their most renowned and unforgettable triumph in Twenty20 international cricket.
In their opening Super 8 encounter, they had fallen short against India by an impressive 47 runs, while Australia had triumphed against Bangladesh by 28 runs (DLS). In this match, an Afghan defeat of any type would have guaranteed Australia and India’s spot in the knockout stages and eliminated both Afghanistan and Bangladesh from contention.
In the match, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Afghan opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadram put up a huge opening stand of 118 runs, but their 15.5 overs may have seemed a bit leisurely for so many runs, but ultimately their strategy was proven correct. The side reached 148 thanks to a few shots from Mohammad Nabi and Karim Janat.
Naveen-ul-Haq took early wickets of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh while defending what appeared to be a mere par total, and Nabi then removed David Warner. Though Marcus and Tim David were unable to do much either, they supported Glenn Maxwell, who made a comeback against a side he had given nightmares to during the World Cup in India the previous year.
Following Gulbadin Naib’s dismissal of Maxwell for 59, the Afghan bowlers attacked the Australians, bowling them out for 127 as Naib claimed four wickets.

Do not disrespect Afghanistan by calling this an upset. Afg are good enough to beat any team on their day. They played to their potential today and defeated a very good Aus team. A fact that should be celebrated. Congratulations and well played @ACBofficials 👏🏼👏🏼 #AUSvAFG pic.twitter.com/e3Ydxap3kC

HISTORY!!!!!! This is a huge victory. Afghanistan's commitment on the field 👌. Very few mess ups in fielding. Taking the catching opportunity produced. Regular wickets. Feels like you have seen a baby grow up.
