Deep Dasgupta’s commented came just before the 3- 3-match ODI series going between India and England. The former cricketer, now a commentator, said that Iyer will bat at number 4 for India on Tuesday in Pune.

As noted in the before matches, Suryakumar starred at the number three position in the last two T20I against England as Shreyas impressed while batting down his usual number. Shreyas, who used to bat in the top four, batted at the fifth and sixth position in the T20Is.

Deep Dasgupta couldn’t help but noticed this change in the positions as Shreyas Iyer’s position T20I batting has changed ever since Suryakumar arrived in the team.

“Shreyas, for me, start at no. 4. His ODI numbers at number 4 are quite impressive. Yes, Surya is there. that’s a very healthy competition. and if you look at it, after Surya has come in, Shreyas’s batting in T20I has changed. If you look at his strike rate and numbers, he is looking like a different batsman. I think that competition is going to push both the players to kind of start elevating their game and the bar that they set for each other,” said Deep Dasgupta to the media.
