CambridgeSeven served as the master planner, architect, and exhibit designer for the exciting renovation and re-imagining of the iconic Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, honouring the outstanding accomplishments and legacy of the NBA and the game of basketball around the world. Three phases of the project were completed, and the grand re-opening took place in May 2021.
The dramatic building with its centre domed space, circular floor layout, and the actual game itself served as inspiration for the team. Fast, sweeping, athletic, and dynamic—words that perfectly describe the game of basketball—were ideas that served as a guide and inspiration for the design.
The mezzanine gallery offers stunning views of Centre Court to start off the immersive trip through the history of the game for visitors. The adventure continues with greater vigour as the game’s narrative is revealed in galleries that include fascinating interactives and stirring testimonies from those who have helped the game become a worldwide obsession.
