Álvaro Carreras To Real Madrid Fabrizio Romano Says ‘Here We Go’ As Deal Nears, Credits- Twitter
Real Madrid may have just lost the Club World Cup semi-final to PSG, but they’re wasting no time licking their wounds, because transfer number four of the summer is already on the cards.
According to transfer oracle Fabrizio Romano, it’s “here we go” time for Álvaro Carreras, with Real Madrid and Benfica shaking hands on a deal. The fee? A cool €50 million ($58M), to be paid in instalments. Carreras, a Madrid youth product, looks all set for a homecoming with just one last box to tick.
Here’s the catch, Manchester United have first refusal. They originally snapped Carreras up from Madrid’s academy and inserted a cheeky clause giving them priority if he ever returned to Spain.
But don’t panic, Madridistas. All signs point to United sitting this one out. They signed a left-back back in January, and frankly, they’re not keen on crowding the position. Plus, United get a sell-on fee, so they’ll profit either way, no need to block the move.
If the Carreras deal goes through, Ferland Mendy’s future becomes increasingly cloudy. The Frenchman is injured yet again, and Madrid might finally be running out of patience.
Meanwhile, Fran García, who started every game in the Club World Cup and looked sharp, might survive the rotation shuffle as Carreras’ backup. It’s not quite Marcelo-Coentrao levels of competition just yet but the plot is thickening.
Xabi Alonso, who’s taken the reins at Real Madrid this summer seems keen on adding depth and flair down the left flank. Carreras fits the bill: young, technically gifted, and a product of Madrid’s own academy. The reunion storyline practically writes itself.
As it stands, the deal is 90% done, with just Manchester United’s response the final step. Romano’s seal of approval means we’re probably just days away from an official announcement.
