Australia women’s captain Alyssa Healy has hinted that her ODI World Cup journey might have come to an end. After Australia’s semifinal loss to India in Navi Mumbai, Healy said she won’t be continuing until the next World Cup, confirming that this was her last appearance in the ICC ODI tournament.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian side pulled off a sensational run chase of 339 to defeat Australia by five wickets on Thursday, October 30. The victory knocked Australia out of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 and booked India a spot in the final against South Africa, set to be played on Sunday, November 2, in Navi Mumbai.

“I Won’t Be There” – Alyssa Healy on Her Future

After the match, Alyssa Healy made it clear that she doesn’t plan to stick around for the next ODI World Cup. The 35-year-old said she’s confident that Australia’s ODI future will evolve without her, though the upcoming T20 World Cup remains a key focus for the team.

“I won’t be there,” the 35-year-old smiled. “That’s the beauty of the next cycle, we’re going to see it unfold. There’s a T20 World Cup in the middle of next year, which is really exciting for our group. But I think our one-day cricket will probably shift a little bit again.”

Alyssa Healy had a tough night in the semifinal, missing a crucial chance off Jemimah Rodrigues when she was on 82. That dropped catch turned out to be costly as Rodrigues took full advantage and guided India home with nine balls to spare. Earlier in the match, the Australian skipper managed only 5 runs from 15 balls.

Alyssa Healy on the Next Generation

Despite the disappointing loss, Alyssa Healy remained upbeat about Australia’s future. She said the team is in good hands as a new generation of players begins to take over. She also praised Phoebe Litchfield for her brilliant century in the semifinal, calling it a sign of what’s to come for Australian cricket.

“When you’ve seen players my age walk away, it’s kind of a weird experience to watch the next generation go about it,” she said. “Phoebe was sensational today, set us up beautifully and went on to make a hundred. It’s been fun to watch her unfold. The next four years leading into the next World Cup are going to be really exciting.”

“We’ll Learn from What We Did Wrong Tonight” – Alyssa Healy Reflects on the Loss

With senior players like Ellyse Perry also nearing the end of their international careers, this semifinal exit could mark the close of a golden era in Australian women’s cricket. Healy acknowledged that while it’s the end of a chapter, it also opens doors for new talent to shine.

We’ll learn from what we did wrong tonight. We’ll grow, we’ll get better,” she said. “The opportunity for some young players to step up in this side is a really exciting thing for Australian cricket.”

Alyssa Healy’s ODI record speaks for itself. In 123 matches, she has scored 3,563 runs at an impressive average of nearly 36, with a strike rate close to 100. Her career includes seven centuries and 18 half-centuries. During this World Cup alone, she scored 299 runs in five innings, averaging a remarkable 74.75.

As one of Australia’s most influential players, Alyssa Healy’s legacy will continue to inspire the next generation even as she steps away from the ODI stage.
