Assume “Ansu” Fati Vieira
The prodigal kid has seen the best and seen the worst in his two years as a professional footballer.
Debuting at 16 for one of the biggest clubs in the world, Ansu Fati took the world by storm by becoming the club’s youngest ever scorer. Ten months later he debuted for his nation Spain aged 17 and scored a goal to become the youngest player to score for the Spanish National team.
Ansu Fati started the 2020/21 season firing on all cylinders. Contributing 9 goals in 10 appearances for the club, Ansu Fati was flying high. And, then came the worst. He suffered a torn meniscus in his knee and missed the rest of the season and was sidelined for nearly a year. The 18-year-old also missed the Euros this summer with the national team.
He only returned to light training last month and started training with the group last week and completed a full group training just yesterday. Today, he has been presented with what every kid in the Masia would dream of.
Wearing the #10 for the Blaugrana.
History of #10 at Barcelona
The #10 at Barcelona unlike many other teams carries a huge weight on it. After all, it has been worn by the likes of Maradona, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, and most recently a certain Lionel Messi.
The Argentine Maestro wore the legendary #10 for most of his 17-year career with the Barcelona first team. He scored a monstrous 672 goals in 778 appearances for the club and won 34 trophies at the club.
Wearing #10 won’t be coming without the added pressure.
Can Ansu succeed Messi?
Ansu Fati is one of the highly-rated talents to have come out of the Masia in quite some time. He has a long way to go before he can even think about succeeding Leo Messi.
Barcelona has a huge season of transition ahead of them. Winning trophies will be difficult without the likes of Messi and Griezmann.
Earlier, president Joan Laporta announced the commencing of a new era at the club.
And, what best way to begin the new era other than giving the #10 to the club’s future.
What’s next?
Barcelona is playing Sevilla after the international break and welcomes Bayern Munich at home for their first Champions League game of the season.
Ansu Fati is in contention to start the game against the Bavarian giants.
Curlers around the world don’t have to wait long to see their new #10 in action.
