Archery World Cup 2025 Shanghai: China To Face South Korea In Mixed Recurve Final

China made their way into the recurve mixed team final after going past Türkiye at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai.

Wang Yan and Li Jiaman got the better of Mete Gazoz and Dunya Yenihayat 5-3 at the Yuanshen Sports Centre.

The home crowd was in full support of their team as the cacophony reverberated around the venue.

“It gave us strength,” said reserved Wang when asked about the noise. “Korea is a very strong team and we will also give our best in that competition.”

“We lose the match (against Korea men yesterday), but we had confidence in ourselves and the competition is not over. We have to fight until the last arrow.”

Wang and Li will face reigning Olympic gold medallists Kim Woojin and Lim Sihyeon, in the mixed team recurve at Archery World Cup 2024. This is the second gold medal match between Korea and host nation China, the other being the recurve women’s team.

The Korean duo of Sihyeon and Woojin duo performed under pressure to beat Germany via shoot off to reach the Shanghai stage.

Moritz Wieser and Michelle Kroppen took the first set 39-36 for Germany and then matched Korea’s following two sets (36,36 and 39,39). The Koreans held their nerve and dropped the only 40 of the match to force a shoot off.

Korea, last year’s Shanghai winners, scored 19,while Germany, 17.

“I was really nervous but I trusted in Woojin who shot before me and I just did my job,” said Olympic champion Lim. “We were just focused on what we were doing so I wouldn’t say the noise (from other match) was a distraction, I just wonder if it was a bit much.”
