The Archery World Cup goes underway in China for the 15th time. The second of the four stops of the 2025 World Cup is being held in Lujiazui Shanghai from May 6 to May 11.
India’s top-ranked women archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Deepika Kumari will lead the country’s charge at the event.
The Indian contingent in Shanghai features the same squad that toured Auburndale, USA for the first stop. It comprises 16 participants- eight men and women each. The same squad featured at Stage 1 in Auburndale, USA.
The Indian squad is headlined by Ojas Deotale and Aditi Swami, the reigning men’s and women’s compound world champions.
World No. 4 and reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam who clinched the individual gold last year in the same venue, will look to replicate the feat. Along with Rishabh Yadav, Jyothi also won India’s only gold medal at Stage 1 last month in the Olympic-bound mixed team compound event.
Four-time Olympian Deepika Kumari takes the charge of the recurve archery team. She will be hungry for a podium finish after losing opportunities at Auburndale.
Other Olympians to feature are Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Atanu Das, who secured the men’s team silver in the USA.
The Archery World Cup are held four stages held in different countries. The top eight archers in each category across these stages qualify for the Archery World Cup Final, where they compete for the overall title.
The third stage will be held in Antalya, Turkiye in June which will be followed by the Madrid World Cup in July. The Archery World Cup Final returns to Nanjing in China in October.
