Aryna Sabalenka has secured the year-end world number one position in women’s tennis for 2024. It is for the first time in her career that the WTA world number one achieved the feat.

The Belarusian had an incredible year winning  four singles titles, including two Grand Slams. She left Iga Swiatek behind to claim the year-end world number one title for 2024.

The 26-year-old won her opening two group matches at the WTA Tour Finals Riyadh. Her top position was sealed when world number two Iga Swiatek was defeated by third-ranked Coco Gauff at the same stage of the tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka reached world number one for the first time in September 2023, and battled for the top spot with Swiatek all year. She claimed the top position in the final three weeks to assert her place on the tennis throne. Sabalenka moved past Iga Swaitek to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the latest WTA rankings released on October 22, 2024.

In 2024, Sabalenka won the Australian Open for the second time in her career without dropping a set. She went on to complete the Grand Slam hard court double by taking her maiden US Open title.

Sabalenka also clinched two WTA 1000 tournaments, the Cincinnati Open in August and the Wuhan Open in October.

The Belarusian will next take on Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the group stage of the ongoing WTA Finals 2024, where she is eyeing to win her maiden year-ender title.
