Asian Athletics Championships 2025 Gumi: Athletes to watch

Woo Sanghyeok, South Korea’s national record holder, is expected to impress the home crowd in men’s high jump. He would look to follow up his win at the 2025 What Gravity Challenge in Doha.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the Paris Olympic 2024 gold medalist in javelin throw, is another star to watch out for. However, the competition will be missing the spark as his main rival, India’s Neeraj Chopra-a Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion- has sat out from the event.

Asian record holder pole vaulter John Obiena leads a 15-member Philippines team will seek to defend his continental title. Prior to the Asian championships, the world number four secured victory at the inaugural PAFATA Pole Vault Challenge in his homeland earlier this month.  Paris 2024 semi-finalist Robyn Boonson, who opened his season at the World Relays in Guangzhou, is one of the Filipino stars to watch in the men’s dash.

Republic of China’s Olympic bronze medallist Song Jiayuan is one to watch in the women’s shot put, while world champion Feng Bin headlines the women’s discus throw at the Asian Athletics Championships.
