The Asian Athletics Championships 2025 is round the corner with athletes bracing themselves for the continental competition.
The 26th edition of the championships will be held from 27th to 31st May in Gumi, Republic of South Korea.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had named a 59-member team for the event with several Olympians set to feature in the list.
Avinash Sable, Jyothi Yarraji and Praveen Chithravel are some of the top athletes included in the Indian squad for Gumi.
However, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will be missing from the event. In his absence, Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh will represent India in the men’s javelin throw.
Asian Games gold medallists Annu Rani and Tajinderpal Singh Toor are other big names who missed out at Asian Athletics Championships.
“We have also fielded teams in the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and we are hoping to qualify for the World Championships,” the AFI secretary general said.
India has also fielded men’s and women’s teams in 4×100 and 4×400 relays with a hope to qualify for the world championship.
In the last edition of the Asian Athletics Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2023, India returned home with 27 medals – six gold, 12 silver and nine bronze.
