AUS vs IND: Cricket Australia has finally revealed the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series against India, and there’s plenty for fans to talk about.
AUS vs IND: Pat Cummins Ruled Out, Mitchell Marsh to Lead in ODIs
Pat Cummins, who’s still recovering from lumbar bone stress, has been ruled out of the white-ball matches against India. In his absence, Mitchell Marsh will take over as captain of the ODI team. The selectors have named the full ODI squad for all three matches, while only the squad for the first two T20Is of the five-match series has been announced.
AUS vs IND: Starc Returns, Labuschagne Left Out
One of the biggest highlights is the return of Mitchell Starc, who’s back in the ODI setup after being rested since last November for workload management. On the flip side, Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped following a poor run with the bat, managing little success in his last 10 innings.
Matt Renshaw Earns a Recall and Eyes ODI Debut
Queensland batter Matt Renshaw has been rewarded for his impressive form with Australia A. Although he was included in the ODI squad for the Pakistan series in 2022, he didn’t get a chance to debut then. This time, he looks well set to finally earn that first ODI cap.
New Faces and Returning Names
Spin-bowling all-rounder Cooper Connolly continues to be part of the ODI setup, while Mitchell Owen could also make his debut. Star all-rounder Cameron Green will feature in the ODIs but won’t play in the T20Is.
For the T20Is, Nathan Ellis makes his comeback after missing the New Zealand tour, and Sean Abbott has been picked for the shortest format but not for the ODIs.
AUS vs IND: Changes Behind the Stumps
In the wicketkeeping department, Alex Carey will miss the first ODI as he’s set to play for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield. Josh Inglis, who has recovered from a calf strain, has been named in both squads. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell will sit out of the T20I series as he’s recovering from a wrist injury.
AUS vs IND: Selector George Bailey Explains Squad Decisions
Speaking about the squad announcements, Cricket Australia’s chair of selectors George Bailey explained the reasoning behind naming only the first two T20I squads.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”
With a mix of experienced players, exciting debutants, and some big names missing, the Australia-India white-ball series promises to be an exciting one for cricket fans.
