Babar Azam’s time with the Sydney Sixers has come to an early close. The star batter has been called back by Pakistan to prepare for upcoming international matches. Because of this, he will not be part of the rest of the Big Bash League season.

The Sydney Sixers shared the update on social media, thanking Babar for his time with the team and wishing him well as he returns to the national camp.

Babar’s Message to the Team and Fans

Before leaving, Babar shared a short goodbye message. He said “First of all, thank you so much to Sydney Sixers for having me, and to all the boys and coaches. I really enjoyed my time here, and unfortunately I have to leave the team because of national duty.”

“I am taking back a lot of valuable experiences. I especially want to thank the Sydney Sixers fans who have always supported me. The encouragement and the atmosphere at the Sydney Cricket Ground were incredible. I really enjoyed that vibe.”

He also gave special thanks to the fans. Babar spoke about the strong support he felt at the Sydney Cricket Ground and how the crowd energy made his experience even better.

Moment with Steve Smith

One of the most talked-about moments from Babar’s BBL run came during a match against the Sydney Thunder. In one over, Steve Smith chose not to take a single and kept the strike.

Smith then hit four sixes in a row in the next over. When Babar returned to bat, he got out on the first ball and showed some clear frustration.

Later, Smith said the two had spoken and cleared everything. The Sixers captain also explained that the situation was just a small misunderstanding between players from different cricket cultures.

Babar’s Performance in the BBL

Babar played 11 matches for the Sixers this season. He scored a total of 202 runs and hit two half-centuries.

His strike rate stayed just above 100, and he averaged a little over 22 runs per match. While the numbers were not his best, he still brought experience and calmness to the top order.

What’s Next for Babar and Pakistan

Pakistan is set to host Australia for a three-match T20 series in Lahore. These matches will take place on January 29, January 31, and February 1.

The series is part of Pakistan’s preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka. The official squad has not been announced yet, but reports suggest Babar will be part of both the series and the main World Cup team.
