The Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony will take place on Monday evening at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris. In a surprising turn, both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who together have won 13 Ballon d’Or awards, will not be there. This is the first time in 20 years that neither has been nominated.

Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid is the favorite to win and could be the first winner born this century.

Other nominees are Rodri from Manchester City and Jude Bellingham, who is also Vinicius’s teammate at Real Madrid.

The Ballon d’Or was created by France Football magazine and has been awarded since 1956. Journalists from the top 100 countries in the FIFA rankings vote on it.
