Bangladesh Premier League Records and Statistics – Team Records for Smallest Victories by Runs

There is no shortage of close games in Bangladesh’s premier league. Many teams have recorded victories by the smallest of margins, making the audience’s heart go faster until the last bowl gets played. The teams who cannot post a good target for the chasing team have higher chances of losing the game quickly. However, the sheer willingness and dedication to fight till the end for the teams in Bangladesh’s premier league make all of the matches a must-watch for the fans out there.

In the 3rd edition of BPL, Barisal bulls were able to restrict Sylhet Super Stars from reaching the target of 109 runs in 20 overs. They were able to win the match by 1 run, which is still recorded as the smallest number of victories by runs in the history of Bangladesh’s premier league. When it came to the smallest of margins by runs needed for victory, many other teams could do the same in their extraordinary manner. 

Barisal Bulls

The first team on our list is Barisal Bulls, now referred to as fortune Barisal due to the new ownership takeover that happened last season. They are one of the six teams who formed the core in Bangladesh’s premier league for their inaugural season in 2012. The on-field performances of this team are pretty memorable, but due to their off-field issues, Barisal bulls were banned from participating in BPL from 2013 to 2014. Moreover, they earned the runners-up medal in the first edition of BPL. And, when it came to winning by the smallest of margins, they still hold the record for it quite comfortably.

Comilla Victorians

After Barisal bulls, it was Comilla Victorians who came the closest to breaking the record of smallest margins that was needed to win a match in BPL. Comilla Victorians are one of the most decorated teams in Bangladesh’s premier league due to being crowned champions for a record three times. It was only the third edition of BPL when Comilla Victorians could participate in the league properly. It was a match against Dhaka Dynamites where they pulled off the win by restricting them from achieving the target of 128 runs and thereby winning it by a meagre margin of 1 run.

Khulna Royal Bengals

Khulna Royal Bengals are the third team that makes this list of winning matches in BPL by the thinnest of margins that could be imagined. During the inaugural season of Bangladesh’s premier league, Khulna Royal Bengals stopped their opponents Sylhet Royals, from usurping the target set by them by two runs at the last ball of the match. However, many scandals started to surface regarding the Bangladesh premier league, which later led to the suspension of all the teams that played in it.

Furthermore, only after the third season did Bangladesh’s premier league start reintegrating all the teams who previously participated in the tournament. In 2016, Khulna Royal Bengals were renamed Khulna Tigers because of being bought by a new set of ownership groups starting from the 4th edition of BPL.

The Bangladesh Premier League is one of the most watched cricking tournaments worldwide, where action-packed and impactful games are played throughout the season. That is why it is famous for records that cannot be broken by any other domestic cricket tournaments played in other countries. There is no better feeling than winning matches that were supposed to be lost after the first innings. But the will to fight till the last ball effectively resulted in lots of matches being won by the smallest of margins.
