How Much Did Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune Win in Prize Money at ATP Barcelona Open 2025?
Holger Rune broke Carlos Alcaraz’s winning streak and won his first title since 2023.
Holger Rune defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the final of the Barcelona Open 2025. Rune has been in great form this year, although he had a heartbreaking loss in the final of Indian Wells.
In this match, Rune played brilliantly, making it difficult for Alcaraz to find his rhythm. Alcaraz appeared physically unfit and took a medical timeout but could not recover to make a comeback.
“It means the world, it was such a great match,” said Rune after his win. “In the beginning, I was a little bit stressed because Carlos obviously plays big-time tennis. I had to breathe a lot and find my rhythm. After he broke me, I got more into the match and played my tennis. The first set was a big battle, and winning it was important to gain momentum. I’m so proud of myself.”
After being forced to retire in his Monte Carlo opener due to food poisoning, Rune made a quick and impressive comeback in Barcelona. The 21-year-old found his rhythm on clay, defeating defending champion Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals and sealing his third clay-court title by winning the final against Alcaraz.
