Ben Duckett: World's Best All-Format Batter In 2025?

Ben Duckett played one of his best innings ever when England chased down 371 runs to beat India in the first Test at Leeds. His powerful 149 off just 170 balls helped England win the match with five wickets in hand. Duckett’s innings had 21 fours and one six, and it came in the final innings a time when pressure is at its peak.

Earlier in the same match, he also scored a useful 62 in the first innings. Together, his two knocks made a big difference and helped England finish the game in just 82 overs.

Many fans praised him, and former captain Michael Vaughan even said that Duckett might be the best batter across all formats in world cricket today. While other players may be better in one format, Vaughan argued that nobody is as good as Duckett in all three.

So, what makes Ben Duckett so special? Let’s break it down.

1. Duckett’s Outstanding 2025 Record in All Formats

In 2025, Ben Duckett has been one of the top-performing players in the world. He has scored over 1,000 runs across formats no one else has reached that mark yet. In just two Test matches, he has scored 351 runs at an average of 117, including two centuries and a fifty.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he has scored 476 runs in nine games at an average of 52.88 with a strike rate of 115.25. Even though he’s played fewer T20Is this year, his strike rate of 168.25 in the shortest format proves how dangerous he is at the top.

Ben is currently in the top five run-scorers in both Tests and ODIs this year a rare achievement. The next closest batter in total runs across all formats is George Munsey from Scotland with 734.

2. He Is Consistent, Match-Winning, and Aggressive

In cricket, it’s hard to find players who are consistent, win games for their team, and also play with aggression. Duckett manages to do all three.

In T20Is, he has a healthy average close to 30 and an excellent strike rate of 153. He scores even better when England wins, averaging 46 with a strike rate of 163.45.

In Tests, his average is 43.68 with a strike rate of 86.18. But in matches that England wins, that goes up to 54.31 and 90.37. This shows that he plays even better in key moments.

In ODIs, Duckett has played 25 matches and averages 49 with a strike rate of 105.47 excellent numbers for any modern-day batter.

3. He Plays Well Everywhere and Scores Big

One of the biggest strengths of Ben Duckett is his adaptability. He has shown that he can score runs in any condition fast pitches, slow pitches, spin-friendly tracks it doesn’t matter.

Out of his six Test centuries, three have come in tough subcontinent conditions, including India and Pakistan. That shows his smart approach to spin bowling. In ODIs, his top score is 165, which came against Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy held in Pakistan.

He doesn’t just score centuries he scores big ones. Five out of his nine total centuries across formats are over 140, and three are above 150. That shows his hunger to stay longer and finish games.
