English all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced that he will retire from ODI cricket after playing his last game against South Africa which is on Tuesday, 19th July at Riverside Ground. It was a shocking news for all the England cricket fans as well as the cricketing world.
Indian cricket team recently completed the tour in England after they played the last ODI of the series at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17th July. India won the this 3-match series by 2-1 after beating England in the last game by 5 wickets. Ben Stokes was in the team and played all the ODIs in this series against India. No one would have ever thought that Ben Stokes will take retirement from ODIs so early. He is one of the exceptional all-rounder in the white-ball cricket. Ben Stokes himself posted an update on his official Twitter account regarding his retirement from ODI cricket on Monday, 18th July.
“I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham. I have decided to retire from this format,” said Ben Stokes in a statement which he posted on his official Twitter account.
Ben Stokes will now be only focusing on Test cricket as he is the captain of the England’s Test team. He will continue playing T20Is as usual.
