The summer transfer window for the 2024-25 season was so eventful with clubs splurging big on young talents. While the transfer window might have shut down, there are several big players up for grabs as free agents.
Here are the most prominent free agents available for transfers:
- Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)
The France midfielder might be looking for his chances at Manchester United. One of the best free agents, Adrien Rabiot would fancy Old Trafford to buy him on a handsome salary.
The 29-year-old had an impressive season with Juventus in 2022-23 as far as his Serie A campaign is concerned. He has been linked with the Reds. After the shutting down of the summer transfer window, Manchester United, too, are looking for free agents.
Meanwhile, Newcastle is also keen on Rabiot and Saudi Arabia, too, could be his new home.
- Memphis Depay (Atletico Madrid)
Memphis Depay is on a hunt for a new club. After initially joining Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in January 2023, he did not receive an extension for his contract for the 2024/25 season, after failing to meet the requirements.
Depay featured only in 14 games for Atletico Madrid as his future in the Spanish club looked bleak. The 30-year-old had shuffled clubs including PSV, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico with a new destination in the offing.
Many believed his future would become clear after Euro 2024, but this has not been the case with Depay as his uncertainty looms large over his new club.
- Anthony Martial (Manchester United)
Anthony Martial did not have the campaign he expected with Manchester United. His ten years of spell at Old Trafford did not end on a very high note.
The injury-prone forward player was unable to leave a mark for the Reds. Given his underwhelming fitness record, it is no surprise that United did not renew the deal with him.
The 28-year-old is yet to find a new home, although speculations are rife of a switch to Greece with AEK Athens willing to hand him a meaty contract. Flamengo, too, could be his next stop.
- Joel Matip (Liverpool)
Joel Matip’s season-ending ACL injury virtually ended his career at Liverpool. While manager Jurgen Klopp had hinted at a contract extension for the veteran defender, Matip’s long-term setback reduced any chances of the Reds retaining him. It would be interesting to see where the 30-year-old would head to as one of the most prominent free agents of the season.
- Yusuf Yazici (Lille)
Turkey’s Yazici had an impressive campaign during Lille’s Europa Conference League campaign.
The midfielder, who won the Ligue 1 title with Lille in 2021, fell in and out of Paulo Fonseca’s favour last season. Notably, the 27-year-old played at Euro 2024 for Turkey without a club team.
“I still have a lot of dreams in football. Of course, you can’t be insensitive to clubs like Milan. It’s Ronaldinho, it’s Beckham. We’ll see what the future has in store for me,” Yazici said recently.
