A bomb threat was sent to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) through an email during the high-profile IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, May 7. The threatening email was sent by an unknown sender and arrived in the official email account of CAB when the match was being played.
This came barely a day after Operation Sindoor, an Indian military counter-strategy that followed the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Following the threat, security was greatly increased at and around Eden Gardens.
Police Start Probe, Security Enhanced at Eden Gardens
The local police have started an investigation into the bomb threat and are attempting to track down the source of the email. Meanwhile, Eden Gardens was subjected to a tight security watch to secure players, officials, and spectators. The stadium was playing its first match since Operation Sindoor, making the situation more sensitive.
Bomb Threat Also Reported at Ahmedabad Stadium
This text is not labeled as an isolated event. An image of a similar bomb threat was posted to the Gujarat Cricket Association, with the sender labeled as `Pakistan JK`, making a blood-curdling threat:
“We will blast your stadium.” The authorities took note of the threat and had the Gujarat Cricket Association alert the Ahmedabad Police. The Narendra Modi Stadium is still going to have two more league matches this season in the IPL.
