Bukayo Saka Scores On Return: Arsenal Back On Winning Ways

Bukayo Saka who just doubled the lead seven minutes into his return from 101 days of injury

Arsenal defeated Fulham at Emirates Stadium thanks to a goal from Bukayo Saka who just doubled the lead seven minutes into his return from 101 days of injury.  With the score at 1-0, the England forward came off the bench in the second half and gave Arsenal what they had been missing while he was away by heading in Gabriel Martinelli’s flick at the far post in minute 73.  After Ethan Nwaneri cut back, Mikel Merino’s shot was deflected into the corner, giving the Gunners the lead in the 37th minute.  In stoppage time, Rodrigo Muniz gave Fulham a response when his attempt was deflected by William Saliba and goalie David Raya, who was caught off guard.  Arsenal’s victory brought them within nine points of Liverpool, the clear leaders.

Arteta confirmed that Timber had suffered a knee injury

Speaking to reporters after the game, Arteta confirmed that Timber had suffered a knee injury. Then, when quizzed on his side’s injury problems, the Spaniard said: “The good thing is that it’s been like this the whole season.

“You see Martinelli today, you say we’re missing three months. You see Bukayo, four months. [Gabriel] Jesus, almost the whole season. How we have managed to be where we are with all those injuries.

“Ben White hasn’t participated at all this season, it’s what it is. We want it so much that we’re going to give it a real go and we are very excited for next week.”

Mikel Arteta

Arteta added: “You can imagine, we’ve lost four players in the defensive line in one week. [Riccardo] Calafiori, Ben White, Jurrien and Gabi Magalhaes. We have still another four, that are so willing that they will do their job.”
