With most of the football leagues in Europe having concluded, the teams for the next year’s UEFA Champions League have been mostly finalised.
Tottenham became the first team to qualify for the next edition as winners of this season’s second tier competition, the Europa League.
The top four teams in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga all earn Champions League qualification. Three spots are awarded to teams in Ligue 1, while there are two spots for Dutch Eredivisie teams.
The winners of the top leagues in Portugal, Belgium, Turkey and the Czech Republic have also found a place.
The defending champions gain automatic entry if they miss out on qualification through their league position.
But given this season’s finalists PSG and Inter have qualified through their respective league performances, Olympiacos have been granted qualification straight into the League Phase as it were the highest ranked club via Uefa’s club coefficient rankings in the final qualification round.
Two additional places are given to the two nations that achieve the best results in European competitions from the previous season.
The remaining seven places will be determined via knockout qualification rounds which conclude in August.
Scottish champions Celtic will have to get through one round of qualifying to seal a league phase spot in the Champions League.
Rangers, who finished second in the Scottish Premiership, have three rounds of qualifying to get through.
Linfield, The New Saints and Shelbourne, champions of Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland respectively, all stand a chance to qualify, through four qualification rounds.
