Stamford Bridge is dreaming again, the players can smell it and Chelsea have a foot in the Champions league. The last match of the season against Nottingham Forest will be a big decider whether they can keep the dream alive as Forest are also in the same boat as they are 1 game and 4 points behind.
Chelsea for the time being moved to the 4th position but Man city also has a game in hand which can prove to be decisive for a lot of the PL clubs.
Man City who will be playing the FA Cup final today will have a different match at focus but all the other clubs in the race for Champions league spots are ready.
While Manchester United would not have liked the defeat but they wouldn’t be bothered too much with it as the last match of their season will be the most important.
If they win the Europa league final against Tottenham, they could qualify for the Champions league whilst being 16th in the Premier league table.
This was Manchester United’s 18th league defeat of the season, their most in a season since losing 20 in 1973-74 in the last season in which they were relegated. The season has been a failure for the management and the new manager but if they can win the Europa league, it will be a big positive for United to take back.
The goal came in the second half through a Cucurella header after a wonderful cross from James. The home side weren’t entirely in control in the first half though did go close through Madueke and with James striking the post with a shot from range.
United started brightly and thought they had gone in front with a fine Maguire finish but the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.
Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the second half after George was adjudged to have been fouled by Onana in the area, but the decision was quickly rescinded via VAR after replays showed barely any contact. The home side struggled to find a breakthrough until Cucurella popped up.
