Chennai Super Kings Team: All You Need To Know About The Men in Yellow

7 Min Read

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are without a doubt the most successful team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Men in Yellow have successfully lifted the IPL title on three occasions (2010, 2011, 2018) apart from winning the Champions League T20 twice (2010, 2014). Skipper MS Dhoni remains the face of CSK, with Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dwayne Bravo being the other important players of King of IPL.

CSK- Chennai Super Kings History

IPL’s concept was relatively new for everyone. Even the concept of T20 cricket hadn’t sunk in with the audience. The first auctions were held in January 2008. For 1.5 million dollars, MS Dhoni became the most expensive player in the auction. Along with the Indian core, CSK acquired experienced foreign players such as Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Stephen Fleming.

CSK’s First IPL Victory

CSK had a mediocre start to the 2010 season, winning only two of seven games. Murali Vijay and Suresh Raina’s outstanding contributions helped them win the next four games in a row. They defeated the Deccan Chargers in the semifinals thanks to an inspired spell of 4 for 13 in four overs from Doug Bollinger. CSK also won the finals against the Mumbai Indians by 22 runs.

CSK-Victory in 2011

For the 2011 season, the Chennai franchise retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, and Albie Morkel while auctioning off Mike Hussey, R Ashwin, Doug Bollinger, and Subramaniam Badrinath. CSK defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in the qualifying final. However, Bangalore qualified for the finals again because the top two teams get two chances to qualify. But it was CSK who took the cake once more.

CSK’s Strong Comeback in 2018

CSK, led by MS Dhoni, made a comeback in 2018, keeping the core of the team. The Super Kings finished the league stage in second place, trailing the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Sunrisers in both the qualifier and final, winning the trophy for the third time.
