England offspinner Shoaib Bashir has been formally ruled out of the last two Test matches against India after suffering a fractured finger during the third Test against India at Lord’s. The 20-year-old bowler will undergo surgery on the little finger of his non-bowling hand later this week.

Injury Was Suffered During Crucial Third Test at Lord’s

The incident happened on Day 3 of the third Test when Shoaib Bashir tried a return catch off a strong drive by India’s Ravindra Jadeja. Despite the agonizing fracture, he showed utmost commitment by staying with his team both on the field and with his bat.

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, praised Shoaib Bashir for his brave and gutsy attitude towards the game. Despite travelling with an injured finger, Bashir was able to bat in the second innings for England, facing nine balls and scoring two runs before he was removed by the bowling of Washington Sundar. Stokes highlighted the mental and physical toughness Bashir displayed:

“His bravery in going out there and batting at the end for us and being prepared to sit here on the bench, ready to bowl even with the injury, indicates how much it means to pull on the England shirt.”Final Wicket Sealed by Shoaib Bashir in the Face of Injury

In a thrilling conclusion to the match, Shoaib Bashir was introduced to the attack late on Day 4. With his left hand strapped heavily and fingers splinted, Bashir produced a vital second spell. Bashir bowled Mohammed Siraj with a delivery which turned back and softly knocked over the bail, securing a remarkable 22-run victory for England and giving them a 2-1 advantage in the five-match series. It was in the stars,” Stokes said, looking back at Bashir’s last wicket in extraordinary conditions.

Shoaib Bashir’s Series Performance

Despite the loss, Shoaib Bashir has 10 wickets in the series at an average of 54.10. His figures in the third Test in the first innings were 1 for 59 off 14.1 overs before returning 1 for 6 in the second innings to win the match. Potential Replacements: Dawson or Leach to Step In

With Shoaib Bashir ruled out, England will now look to Liam Dawson or Jack Leach as stand-ins for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, which begins on July 23.

Dawson, a left-arm bowler, returned to international cricket recently with fine figures of 4 for 20 in a T20I against the West Indies. Leach, on the other hand, is a reliable Test resource with valuable experience. Stokes Remembers Bashir’s Contributions and Team Bonding

Stokes also gained a moment of personal pride, remembering the long hug he gave Shoaib Bashir after the last wicket:

“There would be a lot of people who might not have been brave enough to go out and face Bumrah or bowl with a fractured finger. What Bash did this week speaks volumes about his character.

“What’s Next for Shoaib Bashir?

Though surgery will keep Shoaib Bashir out of action for the remainder of the series, his dedication, determination, and match-winning final-wicket batting have made an indelible mark on England fans and management. As Bashir embarks on recovery, he will aim to come back stronger and keep forging ahead in a promising international career.
