The tournament has a rich history and symbolises the evolution of badminton in China and worldwide. Established in 1986, the tournament initially featured only Chinese players and was known as the “China National Badminton Championships.” Over the decades, the competition expanded its scope to welcome international competitors, becoming a truly global event. In 2005, it earned the Super Series status, putting it on a global map and attracting the world’s top shuttlers.
