Veer Chotrani of Maharashtra defeated top seed Rahul Baitha to go to the men’s final of the 6th Cello NSCI Open National Circuit squash competition, which was held at NSCI’s glass-backed squash courts in this location on Tuesday. The competition is co-sponsored by Hbits and Rubicon Consumer Healthcare.

The Australian former world number one David Palmer’s student, 21-year-old Chotrani of Mumbai, packed too many punches for Baitha, who was unable to keep up with his quick speed. Early on, Chotrani also developed his touch, expertly striking the angles to send Baitha scrambling for returns.

The first game was close initially because Baitha, the No. 6 rated player in the nation and a student at the JSW Academy in Vashind, managed to keep up, but once Chotrani broke free, it was all one-way traffic as she won 11-8, 11-6, and 11-2. Chotrani will compete against second-seeded Suraj Chand (Mah), a JSW student who defeated Services’ Jamal Sakib by scores of 11-7, 11-2, and 11-9.

Urvashi Joshi (Mah), the top seed, will compete in the women’s final against Delhi adolescent Anahat Singh, the second seed. Urvashi defeated Sunita Patel 11-7, 11-4, and 11-7, while Anahat defeated Janet Vidhi 11-5, 11-1, and 11-2.

Priyaan Thakkar of Maharashtra defeated top seed Aditya Chandani in the boys u-17 semifinals 11-7, 11-9, 11-4 to go to a match against second seed Aryaveer Dewan of Delhi, who defeated Arjun Somani 11-7, 12-10, 11-7.
