Cricket Australia Released 23-Player Squad for the 2025-26 season. There are some new players on the list, however, some player names will not shock you with their exclusions.
The contract list was released on April 1st, 2025, and unsurprisingly, three new players have been announced in the contract lists while seven players from the squad that won the Champions Trophy in 2025, have not been confirmed in the contracted list.
Cricket Australia Released 23-Player Squad, 2025-26 Contract List

Among the first-time contracted players from the 23-man selection for Cricket Australia are promising young cricketers Sam Konstas and Beau Webster. Last season, Webster was especially influential in helping Australia’s successful 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, with many commentators suggesting he should have been paid as a contracted player for his all-around contributions.
He will join Kuhnemann and Webster, the young left-arm spinner, who performed well in Sri Lanka and was just recently cleared of a bowling action investigation, who have also been retained.
Key Inclusions:
Sam Konstas – Young batting star
Beau Webster – Talented all-rounder
Matthew Kuhnemann – Emerging left-arm spinner
Major Exclusions: Seven Champions Trophy 2025 Players Miss Out
Although there has been a turnover of players, some key names from Australia’s Champions Trophy team in 2025 have not made the final squad.
The most significant omissions are Sean Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Todd Murphy. There were also some promising young cricketers such as Cooper Connolly, Nathan McSweeney, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Tanveer Sangha who didn’t make it.
Key Exclusions:
Sean Abbott – Experienced all-rounder
Aaron Hardie – Talented all-rounder
Todd Murphy – Off-spinner with Test experience
Cooper Connolly – Young all-rounder
Nathan McSweeney – Backup batter for the Sri Lanka series
Jake Fraser-McGurk – Explosive batsman
Tanveer Sangha – Promising leg-spinner
Mitchell Marsh Retained Despite Injury

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who missed out on the Champions Trophy 2025 because of a back injury, has been kept on the contract list, and at present, he is playing in IPL 2025 as a batter-only player, and it is expected he will arrive back as a full player before the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 against South Africa at Lord’s.
Chief selector George Bailey said Marsh’s involvement means strong competition for the all-rounder spot as Cameron Green comes back from injury. “With Cameron Green and Mitch Marsh available, there is going to be great competition for spots in the Test squad for the WTC final and the West Indies series afterward,” Bailey said.
Opportunities for Non-Contracted Players in the Future
Although several players have fallen short of Cricket Australia’s 23-player team, they can still get contract upgrades. Players such as Marcus Stoinis and Tim David, who are still in the running for the T20 World Cup 2026, might still get contracts depending on how they perform in the next 12 months.
Moreover, any player satisfying Cricket Australia’s match criteria at the international level would be able to attain a seasonal contract upgrade.
