Ireland all-rounder Curtis Campher made history on Thursday by becoming the first male professional cricketer to take five wickets in five balls. He pulled off the incredible feat while playing for Munster Reds in their Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy match against North-West Warriors in Dublin.
Curtis Campher Creates History With Stunning Bowling Spell
Curtis Campher, who already has a rare record of taking four wickets in four balls in T20 internationals, has now added another remarkable achievement to his name. However, he’s not the first cricketer overall to do it. That distinction goes to Zimbabwe’s Kelis Ndhlovu. The young all-rounder achieved the same milestone in 2024, taking five wickets in five balls for Zimbabwe U-19 against Eagles Women in a domestic T20 match.

Curtis Campher, the 26-year-old Munster Reds captain and right-arm fast bowler, pulled off something truly special on Thursday. He picked up five wickets in just five balls during his second and third overs, as North-West Warriors collapsed from 87 for 5 to 88 all out in just 13.3 overs while chasing a target of 189.
Another Milestone for Campher Since His 2020 Ireland Debut
Campher wrapped up the match with outstanding figures of 5 for 16 in just 2.3 overs at Pembroke Cricket Club in Sandymount, Dublin.
The dramatic sequence began with the final delivery of the 12th over when he bowled Jared Wilson with a beautiful inswinger that knocked over the off stump. Next ball, he trapped Graham Hume lbw with another sharp delivery.
That put him on a hat-trick going into his next over. And he got it – Andy McBrine was dismissed first ball of the 14th over. Then, on his fourth and fifth deliveries, Campher cleaned up tailenders Robbie Millar and Josh Wilson, both for ducks, to complete his incredible five-wicket burst.
Earlier in the game, Munster Reds had posted a solid 188 for 7 in their 20 overs after choosing to bat first.
Since making his international debut for Ireland in 2020, Campher has represented his country in seven Tests, 43 ODIs, and 61 T20Is – and now, he’s added another unforgettable moment to his career.
