Los Blancos played their 1st match against a resilient Al-Hilal and it was a close affair as Al-Hilal gave the European giants a good run for their money. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

1st half

It looked like Al-Hilal had a better first half than Madrid as Hilal were better in keeping the possession of the ball and also looked more dangerous.

The first goal came through Real Madrid’s excellent counter-attacking skills, Gonzalo Garcia was at heart of this attack and also was the one who finished it. He dropped deep to carry the ball and gave it to Vinicius Jr and also finished the tap-in when Rodrygo played out a beautiful through ball.

He also had another chance just minutes later but failed to convert that.

In the 41st minute Al-Hilal scored a penalty through Ruben Neves. The penalty was awarded when Raul Asencio handled Leonardo illegally and brought him down.

This goal brought Hilal back into parity and it looked like Al-Hilal would have the upper hand now.

2nd half

The second half started with a quick attack by Real Madrid who looked to get back into the lead straight away as Arda Guler struck the post from a Vini junior cross. After this, the game got pretty even and it looked like more of a battle of midfield.

The most controversial part of the game came at the 89th minute, when VAR awarded a penalty to Real Madrid after the referee had earlier refused to give it.

The Al-Hilal players were adamant about the penalty and Ruben Neves was shown a yellow card for repeated violation of conduct towards the referee.

As there was no 1st team striker left on the pitch for Real Madrid, Federico Valverde took the penalty and missed. This chance could have sealed the win for Real Madrid but it was saved by Bono.

Gonzalo Garcia was awarded as the Superior Player of the Match.
