CWG 2022: Lovepreet Singh Wins Bronze in 109kg Weightlifting, Pushing India’s Total to 14
Lovepreet Singh wins Bronze, Cameroon’s Junior Periclex Ngadja Nyabeyeu won the gold medal with a total weight lift of 361kg (160kg in snatch, 201kg in clean & jerk).
Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh won another medal for India on Wednesday at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Lovepreet took bronze in the Men’s 109kg Final after lifting a total of 355kg (163kg in snatch, 192kg in clean & jerk). Lovepreet is India’s eighth medalist in weightlifting at the current Commonwealth Games.
Lovepreet began the competition by lifting 157kg on his first snatch attempt. He lifted 161kg and 163kg in his final two snatch attempts to better his performance. After the snatch round, Lovepreet was in second position on the rankings. In his first clean and jerk effort, Lovepreet lifted 185kg. In his second and third C&J efforts, he lifted 189kg and 192kg, bringing his total to 355kg.
Meanwhile, Cameroon’s Junior Periclex Ngadja Nyabeyeu won the gold medal with a total weight lift of 361kg (160kg in snatch, 201kg in clean & jerk). Jack Hitila Opeloge of Samoa won silver with a total weight of 358kg (164kg in snatch, 194kg in clean & jerk).
