Daniil Medvedev wins reaches his 3rd straight US Open Semi-finals

At the US Open 2021, the road to the finals is almost near as we have reached the final stages of the competitions. The first quarter-final encounter in Men’s Singles was played between Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.

World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev won in four sets 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 against the 25-year-old Dutch player on Tuesday at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The encounter lasted for two hours and 22 minutes.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev dominated the 1st two sets with ease, taking a 2-0 lead. But Botic van de Zandschulp made a great comeback to win the third set 6-4. With this, he broke Daniil Medvedev record of not dropping a set in his US Open 2021 journey to QF.

As a result, Medvedev will compete in the Men’s Singles US Open Semi-finals for the third consecutive year. He had earlier reached the Final of the US Open in 2019 where he met Rafael Nadal and gave him a tough fight, however, Nadal emerged victorious winning the 5 sets match with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4.

In 2021, Medvedev had reached the Men’s Singles Australian Open Final where he lost 5-7, 2-6, 2-6 to Novak Djokovic. Meanwhile, at the 2021 Roland-Garros, he made it to the Quarter-final round losing to the eventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Russian will now face the Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in the semi-final on 11th September, Saturday.
