Barcelona Buzz and a Truly Global Crowd
Day 1 of ICE 2026 officially launched at Fira Barcelona Gran Via with incredible energy. The halls were packed as an estimated 50,000+ gaming professionals from over a hundred countries gathered in one place. This year’s ICE has firmly established itself as the world’s largest iGaming event, and the move to Barcelona has only made it bigger. From the 10:00 AM opening, the excitement was impossible to miss. A new year and a new chapter for the industry had clearly begun.
A Grand Opening in the Heart of Barcelona
Fira Gran Via Transformed
Walking into the venue on the first morning was impressive. The eight massive halls, covering roughly 120,000 square meters, felt like a temporary gaming city. Even for longtime ICE attendees, the diversity and size of the crowd on Day 1 stood out. With more than 83 percent of attendees traveling from outside Spain and strong growth from Latin America and Asia, the global reach of ICE was on full display.
Ribbon-Cutting and Record Crowds
The official opening ceremony set the tone for the week. Relocating to Barcelona has clearly attracted an even larger audience, with ICE once again appearing on track to break attendance records. The event was sold out before doors opened, and aisles quickly filled with operators, suppliers, regulators, and innovators exploring the show. Many attendees spent their first hour simply getting oriented in the enormous layout.
A Warm Welcome Before Day 1
Momentum began building the night before with Welcome Drinks and the World Gaming Gala. Those early gatherings brought hundreds of industry professionals together and carried a sense of connection straight into Day 1. Old colleagues reconnected, new relationships formed over coffee, and the welcoming atmosphere helped everyone settle in quickly.

Keynotes and Industry Insights
Setting the Direction
The conference program opened strong, focusing on where the industry is headed next. Leaders from major technology companies discussed AI, cloud infrastructure, and connectivity, showing how closely mainstream tech and gaming are now linked. Seeing non-gaming tech brands play such a visible role reinforced how much ICE has evolved.
Regulation at the Center
Regulation remained a major focus throughout the day. Policymakers and executives from Europe, Asia, and emerging markets shared updates on compliance, responsible gaming, and sustainability. Topics like player protection, AML, KYC, and corporate responsibility were impossible to miss, both on stage and across the show floor.
Leadership Perspectives
CEO panels highlighted a shared view. The industry is growing, but success now depends on managing regulation and meeting higher player expectations. AI, data, and personalization dominated discussions around both responsible gaming and smarter engagement strategies. These themes closely align with the priorities SCCG continues to emphasize.
Show Floor Highlights and Innovation
Eye-Catching Mega Stands
With nearly 1,000 exhibitors, the scale of the show floor was undeniable. Large, multi-story booths blended entertainment, celebrity appearances, and hands-on demos, drawing steady crowds. The mix of sports, media, and betting was a clear trend across many of the most popular stands.
New Technology on Display
Day 1 introduced several next-generation solutions, including hybrid gaming cabinets, licensed content, fintech tools for instant payments, and crypto-to-fiat options. AI-powered compliance tools, biometric ID systems, VR betting, and skill-based gaming concepts showed just how fast the industry is moving.
Where Land-Based Meets Digital
One of the strongest trends was the unification of online and on-property gaming. Streaming content to physical machines, shared loyalty systems, and cashless gaming technology highlighted how modern casino floors are becoming more flexible and software-driven.
The ICE Wow Factor
ICE always delivers visual impact. Live esports competitions, full-size Formula 1 cars, robot bartenders, and themed national pavilions created memorable moments throughout the day. The blend of gaming, entertainment, and culture was everywhere.
