In a significant development before the IPL 2025 playoff contest, Devdutt Padikkal replaced for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. In return, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have declared that Mayank Agarwal will take his place for the rest of the season.
The seasoned Karnataka batsman signs with RCB for INR 1 crore, rejoining the team he was part of from 2011-2013, and in which he made 492 runs in 35 games at a strike rate of 128.79.
Major Setback for RCB As Padikkal Out
Padikkal’s injury is a blow for RCB, who are only one win away from qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs. The left-handed opener had performed well this season, scoring 247 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 150.60 and an average of 27.44, a far cry from his poor show last season when he averaged only 5.42.
Padikkal attributed RCB’s coaching team, including head coach Andy Flower and Dinesh Karthik, for guiding him to improve technically this year.
RCB Take on LSG in Important Encounter
With the playoff situation intensifying, RCB’s next game is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, and the availability of Mayank Agarwal will bring much-needed depth to their batting department in Padikkal’s absence.
