Brevis’ 41-ball ton was also the second-fastest T20I hundred ever scored by a South African, just behind David Miller’s 35-ball effort in 2017.

With this knock, Dewald Brevis became only the eighth South African man to score a T20I hundred, joining an exclusive club that includes stars like Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and David Miller.

Brevis came in at No. 4 in the fifth over after Australia had won the toss and chosen to field. The pressure was on, as he had made just 2 runs in the series opener and only 140 runs in eight T20Is before this match. A big knock was exactly what he needed to cement his place in South Africa’s competitive T20 side.
On 14 from 11 balls, Brevis suddenly shifted gears. The turning point came when Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell came into the attack. Dewald Brevis attacked both spinners with confidence, and in the 12th over, he took Maxwell for three sixes and a four. From then on, he did not look back, continuing the assault even against pacers like Josh Hazlewood.
