The inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 witnessed a controversial stint in which their two fast bowlers, Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar and captain Shahid Afridi were involved.

Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif fought in the 2007 World Cup in South Africa at the dressing room in which Shoaib Akhtar had later blamed Afridi for instigating him because of which he hit Asif with the bat.

Mohammad Asif sided the skipper in a joke on Shoaib Akhtar which led to a fight between the two bowlers however Afridi came down to solve the matter. Later he also blamed the skipper for provoking him due to which he hit Asif with the bat. Shoaib was also thrown out of the team due to his actions. However, he apologized to Asif on his return to Pakistan.

The former skipper Afridi has now come clean with the issue that he no involvement in instigating Shoaib, he was just there to cool down the matter.

“I did not have a hand in the incident, only went in to save the situation when I saw Shoaib angry,” Afridi said

The controversy of 2007 is still being remembered by a lot of people as it was one of the most heated ones of the time.
