The Chinese chess grandmaster and a renowned World Chess Champion, Ding Liren, was born on 24 October 1992 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China. Ding Liren cultivated his passion for Chess at the young age of four. At age 16, Ding became the youngest person ever to win the Chinese Chess Championship. He became the first player in history to make the finals of consecutive Chess World Cups, in 2017 and 2019. Ding has represented China in all the Chess Olympiads that took place between 2012 and 2018. He also emerged as a Chinese chess champion thrice in the years 2009, 2011, and 2012. At the 2015 World Team Championships, Ding Liren also took home team gold and individual silver.
He entered the top 10 of the FIDE world rankings in August 2015, becoming the second Chinese player after Wang Yue to do so. With a Blitz rating of 2875, he was the highest-ranked Blitz player in the world in July 2016. He qualified for a Candidates Tournament for the first time in September 2017 for China. Ding achieved a rating of 2816 in November, which qualified him for the tenth-highest rating ever and made him the first Chinese player to exceed the 2800 Elo mark in the FIDE world rankings.
