Diwali 2022 Moments: Ind Demolishes Eng 5-0 on Diwali Eve 2011

Indian cricket fans in 2011 had an additional reason to rejoice as Team India, led by MS Dhoni, completed a dominant whitewash of England at home around Diwali. India, which had a 4-0 series advantage, scored a respectable 271-8 on the series’ fifth and final ODI match against England at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, riding on an outstanding unbroken 75 by captain MS Dhoni.

Then, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja combined to capture 7 wickets between them, trapping England in a web from which they were unable to escape. The opposition was eventually bowled out for 176, and India easily won the game by 95 runs to clinch the series 5-0.

India won the series 5-0 as a result of the victory, the same score by which England defeated India at home. While Dhoni’s efforts earned him the Man of the Series title, Jadeja received the Man of the Match award.

With openers Alastair Cook and Craig Kieswetter putting on a 129-run unbroken combination, England got off to a terrific start in their pursuit of 272 runs. The other batters only made brief appearances in the middle, thus that was the only positive aspect of their innings.

Starting on a good note, captain Cook and gloveman Kieswetter rotated the strike and scored in both singles and doubles. The two quickly upped their run rate, causing the Indian fielders to make errors. In due course, both of England’s openers had scored more than 100 runs while still batting.

When a Varun Aaron delivery caught the inside edge of Cook’s bat and slammed into his stumps, the two had combined for 129 runs before losing their first wicket. Even though Aaron claimed his fourth clean-bowled victim in the two games, he was out for 60 runs. The third ODI at Wankhede was when the previous three occurred.

On Tuesday, the grinning Indian captain MS Dhoni wished his countrymen a “Happy Diwali” after his team thrashed England by 95 runs in the fifth and final ODI of the series to complete a 5-0 sweep. In a press conference following his visit to Eden Gardens, Dhoni wished everyone a happy Diwali. Dhoni declared he would spend a day in Ranchi with his family to celebrate Diwali. Fireworks are appropriate just now, he declared. For Diwali, the Indian team has been granted a day off.
