With the participation of more than 600 athletes from 79 different countries, the Dubai 2023 Championships are set to showcase intense competition. Expect to witness Paralympic and World champions battling it out for top honors as they pave their way to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The recent meeting, held at the Dubai Club for People of Determination, was led by Thani Juma Berregad. He confirmed that all preparations are complete to present an outstanding edition of the Championships. The event enjoys the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination.

Berregad, also the Chairman of the Organising Committee, stressed that the success of the Wheelchair Basketball World Cup, held last June, has added responsibility. The teams are determined to replicate that success in the Para Powerlifting Worlds, bolstering the nation’s position in the realm of Para-sport.

“Our wise leadership consistently supports People of Determination, enabling them to enhance their skills and sports talents. This has led the UAE and Dubai, a hub of initiatives, to play a pivotal role in hosting major sports events,” said Berregad. He added that this underscores the importance of supporting a significant segment of society, working towards the integration of all individuals to achieve a united vision.

Majid Al-Usaimi, the tournament director, highlighted that Dubai is making history by hosting two world championships within 60 days for the first time. He expressed confidence in the teams’ abilities to meet the challenge and deliver an exceptional edition of the World Para Powerlifting Championship.

Dubai’s track record in the World Championships for People of Determination is commendable, continually surpassing records with each successive edition across various sports. The championships also stand out for the record number of participating countries and athletes.

Al-Usaimi expressed gratitude to the governments and institutions that contribute to the success of the world championships organized by the club. These efforts align with initiatives aimed at achieving their desired goals.

The committee discussed plans for the opening ceremony, which will be both simplified and expressive. Set to take place on August 21 in the evening at the Habtoor Hilton Hotel, the ceremony will mark the beginning of this exceptional event.
